ROFL this is you on here?
HEADS UP! If you are a Twitter user and receive a direct message (DM) with the subject line that reads: “ROFL this you on here?” be careful, this is no LOLing matter.
There is a new scam going around on Twitter that can lead to identity theft.
How does it work?
The DM will contain a link that appears to lead to a video site. However, when the linked is clicked the user is directed to a fake Twitter page and asked to log in. Any media downloaded thereafter, results in a virus infection.
How does identity theft play in?
In two ways: The first is that many internet users use the same login and password for multiple accounts, so even if your virus software kills the virus you may still have a problem.
The second way: The virus infection contains a keylogger and/or data mining program that harvests user login details.
How can you protect yourself?
I know it’s a pain in the butt to use multiple passwords, but you’ll be glad you did!

I was getting a few of these too. Another DM said something like “I can’t believe what you look like in this picture.”
Apparently, a few legitimate Twitter accounts were hacked, and these DMs were sent out.
Thanks for all of the valuable information on your blog!
I gave you a blog award, go check it out

I stopped clicking on Twitter links a long time ago, after the last one sent me to a porn site that got blocked by my virus protection or Web of Trust, can’t remember which, as being a site with dangerous downloads. It’s funny how all you have to do is say some key word on Twitter (I think I had tweeted about my dog peeing in the lobby of the vet’s office) and all of a sudden you get bombarded by the spammers with links like these.
Thanks for the head’s up on this one.
