Free Credit Report scams
The ONLY safe and legit place to get a FREE Credit Report online is AnnualCreditReport.com.
Many of these so called Free Credit Report sites such as Credit Report America (which is in Canada by the way….) and FreeCreditReport.com are a big, fat waste of time.
For two reasons:
On FreeCreditReport.com – your credit card will be charged $14.95 per month for a credit monitoring service, unless the customer cancels that service within nine days.
The information isn’t even accurate. In fact, the small print identifies the PLUS score as “educational.”
The vast majority of lenders use scores calculated using software from FICO. A FICO score ranges between 350 and 850, with scores above 750 considered excellent.
FICO operates a Web site for consumers, myFICO.com, which sells credit report and score monitoring services, but even the number from that site may not be the score a lender will see.
There are different scores for different purposes, based on the type of loan a consumer seeks. That means if the same person applied for a mortgage, a car loan and a credit card, the three agencies could generate nine different scores.
There’s really no way for you to actually get your score. What the Web sites can tell you if your score is generally poor, fair or excellent.
It’s a good way to just “watch” your score for huge changes…I guess.
