You get to decide which one of four organizations will receive a donation of $100,000 to put towards economic empowerment for survivors of domestic violence from ClicktoEmpower.org and Allstate Foundation. The organization that receives the most votes from YOU will receive the $100,000 grant and the remaining finalists will receive $10,000 each.

Voting has started and will end September 12. You can click once per day, so bookmark the ClicktoEmpower Facebook site.

The organizations include:

Safe Horizon
Safe Horizon is the nation’s leading victim assistance organization. Our mission is to provide support, prevent violence, and promote justice for victims of crime and abuse, their families and communities. Our 80 programs are located throughout the five boroughs of New York City in court houses, police precincts, schools, shelters, and community offices. Safe Horizon’s first priority is the safety of those who seek assistance. Our programs work with clients to meet their needs so they can look ahead to a safe horizon.

If the organization won the $100,000 donation: That size of a donation would allow Safe Horizon to host multiple SafeWork training sessions at various companies throughout the year and would allow the organization to host a SafeWork 2010 Community Event. Such an event would invite all participating companies the opportunity to invite clients, colleagues, and partners together for an evening of professional networking and education about the critical effects of domestic violence in the workplace. During the event, staff members from Safe Horizon would facilitate discussion around the issue of domestic violence and recognize the efforts of companies that are committed to addressing the issue.

YWCA

The YWCA is the oldest and largest multicultural women’s organization in the world. Across the globe, we have more than 25 million members in 122 countries, including 2.6 million members and participants in 300 local associations in the United States. More important than the numbers, is our mission to eliminate racism and empower women. We provide safe places for women and girls, build strong women leaders, and advocate for women’s rights and civil rights in Congress.

Women come to us in times of crisis, as survivors of rape or domestic violence. They come for job training and career counseling. They come for childcare. They come for health and fitness. They come for a variety of reasons. But they come. And they leave with a renewed spirit, new skills, and stronger lives.

Charity Cars

Established in 1996, Charity Cars, Inc. is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization, and the first charity of its kind in the nation. One of our missions is to provide a free vehicle and vehicle support services to assist disadvantaged families in their transition from dependency to self-sufficiency. Additionally we engage in other activities that will uplift humanity which includes providing funds to other organizations that share the 1-800-Charity Cars vision.

The Charity Cars program provides a vehicle that has been refurbished to insure safety and reliability, and at times a license plate, the down-payment for insurance, a service warranty, and case management services to families willing to work. Accountability plays an important role in the program via the Charity Cars contract. Vehicles are registered and titled in the recipient’s name, however, Charity Cars retains a lien on each vehicle for a period of one year so the vehicle cannot be sold. At times recipients are mandated to be employed within thirty days upon the receipt of a vehicle and must remain employed throughout the lien period. Additionally, contractual obligations require recipients to maintain car insurance and to participate in follow up case studies.

Family Justice Center

The Family Justice Center Alliance was launched in 2006 in response to the increasing demand for technical assistance from existing and pending Centers across the world. The Family Justice Center Alliance serves as the official technical assistance provider for the United States Department of Justice for federally funded centers and also works with centers outside the federal initiative and abroad. There are currently 30 operational centers in the United States with an additional three international centers operating in Croydon, England; Monterey, Mexico; and Waterloo, Canada with an additional 30 centers in the works.

In addition to technical assistance, training and consulting, the Family Justice Center Alliance hosts an annual international conference, provides shared learning opportunities such as staff exchange programs international internships, web-based education programs, and training in the area of family violence.

If the organization won the $100,000 donation: That size of a donation would allow the Alliance to develop and promote a comprehensive job training and job placement model in Family Justice Centers around the country. The model would include building local alliances with job training and placement programs in communities where Family Justice Centers are currently operating. The Alliance would target two communities nationally for development of the model with technical assistance support from the Alliance.
