BigSpot Survey Scam

BigSpot Surveys

If you watch TV, you’ve seen the ad for BigSpot Survey Company. As an avid survey taker, I perked up when the ad from BigSpot first aired but after visiting the site, I just shook my head thinking about all the poor people that would be signing up…

I received a few emails asking if we had used BigSpot and because I love my readers so much, we tackled Bigspot.com and have before you, the results:

The people behind BigSpot are very smart. The BigSpot owners like everyone, know that the economy is in the crapper and people are desperate for cash. Jobs are scare, there are more people looking for ways to make money just to get by… :(

Generally, I REALLY don’t think it’s okay to prey on the American people… And by “generally”, I mean NEVER.

When you head over to the BigSpot website, everything looks okay, to me, the website is a little generic to have a TV spot, but we’ll overlook one the major warning signs I look for in a scam for now.

I would like to point out the BigSpot commercials are targeted demographically, like all commercials, but try to remember what you were watching when you seen the Bigspot ad, what type of audience do you think BigSpot is trying to target….just some mind candy…

As we look over the web site, we notice ( how could we miss it…it’s the only information there ) a place to sign up to get in all those “great” surveys.

STOP.

By giving any 3rd party your contact information you have just opened Pandora’s box of junk mail and worst case scenario – identity theft.

If you want to do surveys, never:

1. Pay money upfront
2. Give personal information to a 3rd party company

Why does Bigspot.com need your email? They do not work for those companies. Your email SHOULD be worthless to them. Why can’t they just list the companies on the landing page / home page and just let visitors sign up? That would be more acceptable and upfront.

We did sign up, so you wouldn’t have to, and before we even had a chance to submit our form, we were offered 2 companies based upon our demographics. AND we did this more then once using MANY different demographics and we qualified for the SAME surveys NO MATTER what we put. How can EVERYONE qualify for the SAME exact survey companies?

Pshhhhhhhhh….

The 2 panels BigSpot offered to (us) the new user are the highest paying referral companies out there — those 2 panels haven’t been added to our list of scams yet

By referral, we mean that Bigspot gets $ when you sign up for these panels. Which is fine by me. They can make all the money they want as far as I am concerned. But do it with the legit companies you know, the ones that pay … and WITHOUT requiring visitors to give their personal information to Bigspot.

My biggest issue with Bigspot, is that the create a false sense of security, do not state honest intentions upfront and don’t even refer the visitor to the REAL paying survey companies. If Bigspot were offer legit survey companies and didn’t require a visitor to enter their email, this post, wouldn’t exist.

Continuing on and after bypassing the first 2 offers, we are presented with an entire PAGE of even more spammy “survey” sites that we have “qualified for” that are infamous for redistributing your personal information to everyone and their Mama. Go ahead and Google ANY one of those companies and you will see THOUSANDS of complaints.

Finally, you get to a few legit companies after all. But, at the expense of what?? Why does BIGSPOT need your personal information and your email??? WHY??

There is no reason, which leads me to assume that they are doing horrid things with all that personal information regardless of what privacy policies they have plastered on their site. You can decide for yourself to give your personal information out. I personally, WOULD NOT.

BigSpot is a gateway to spam hell because of the sites they are affiliated with and as I said before, any personal information you give to a 3rd party site, can lead to the possibility of identity theft. And in theory, you are giving your email to 4th party sites as well, which is an entirely different problem in itself…

The information you get on BigSpot , you can get here at WebFloss, or Google, or… Without having to fill out any forms, being presented with spammy offers, or be at risk of having your information sold.

Please be careful online and don’t just take our word for it! Do your OWN research!!!

SCAM = an attempt to intentionally mislead a person or persons with the goal of financial or other gain.

FINAL NOTE: MANY of the companies BigSpot list are well known for NOT paying out. The TV spot is misleading because they claim survey companies you sign up for at Bigspot.com pay out. While a select few might pay out, the majority have proven time and time again to only offer SPAM or resell your information.

REPORT COMPANIES that send spam to the FTC without giving ANY identifiable information. :)

Bloggers' Rights at EFF

AND another thing, is that you WILL NOT make “Big Bucks” with surveys. It just doesn’t happen… You will make money, but Bigspot will make more money just for one single person that signs up verses all the surveys you can do in a month.

Remember that. :)

My roommate saw the ad for BigSpot 4 times today while I was out having my nails done. As soon as I walked in the door she, very excitedly exclaimed, “We could make extra money doing this”! To which I replied, “Not until I check out any and all complaints against this company”. I didn’t have to look far! I Googled, found your site first and was sooo glad I did.
Thank you so much for doing an important public service for all of us poor folk out here.

A scam? That is BS. I’m not out to get rich, but I have made money on the sites from Bigspot.

Worried about giving your email? Just create a seperate email for this kind of stuff. It’s simple.

I was really about to go full speed ahead with the signing up process until I saw this and boy and I glad I did. I really feel so angry that this type of crap keeps happening. I am unemployed right now and I have been unsuccessfully able to find work and I am really feeling this recession. The scams are everywhere, I just graduated from that DAMN western career college which was another scam and now can not find work. they get rich we get taken, I just hate them

How can you expect to fill out surveys and expect NOT to give out personal information? How do you expect them to contact you? How do you expect them to send you a check? Lets be real here.

I’ve been doing online surveys for a while now and let me tell you, spam comes with the territory; however, that’s why if you plan on being serious about this you need to take some pretty simple precautions. Setup a separate e-mail account, phone number, and mailbox just for surveys. With $60, I opened up a PO box, and added a second line with MagicJack. Within a week or two I already made back the initial $60 investment.

Point is, you can’t be retarded. Yes, these people are trying to pray on the innocent but that’s business. Never give out your credit card information.

“Point is, you can’t be retarded.”

Thank you for a good laugh. The trouble is that most people are retarded. Idiots procreate like rabbits and smarties wait until they can no longer have their own biological children or give birth to genetically damaged simpletons. It’s a sad fact.

You’d think that “Point is, you can’t be retarded.” would be obvious.

Its a real shame that some companies are willing to stoop to such levels to make a bit of cash. People are slowly becoming more weary of these types of schemes but in desperate times (like now), people will try almost anything to make a few bucks.

Great article and review these guys are only trying to scam people out of there money and give you sites that you can get on your own look around and you will see there are tons of sites that offer real online surveys and pay you. Dont fall into the hole that everything you see on tv is true because lord knows it is not that way.

first, thank you for rthe heads up warning. I just heard this site advertised for the first time on tv. I am so glad that your site popped up.

Next, to all who are looking for legit companies – and they are out there, I suggest you go to the surveypolice website. There you can get a listing of all of the internet survey companies, read what actual users have to say about them, and if you have a complaint about a company, they will go to bat for you. They helped me get money more than once, from companies that were slow pay.

In the late nineties I signed up with a company named Bigsmart .com. It was a scam. The only money I made came from recruting. The guy running it was not found guilty of any wrong doing. His only thing he was told is that he could not start another online company for seven years. This name sounds awful close to Big smart .com.I know his name, he was then from Arizona. Thanks for the heads up. Peter

Good to know. What is word on this survey site…?

surveymonster.net?????

Reply

SoFlossy April 16, 2009 at 6:14 PM

SurveyMonster almost had me fooled during the signup process. Opinion Outpost, Survey Spot, etc are all decent survey companies that were offered at signup. But then, I clicked submit….

First site offered: Panda Research. First site on my scam list: Panda Research. It was all downhill from there. If you want to make money online steer clear from any site that wants you to signup to get “a list” of ways.

Why do they need you to sign up? It would be easier to just list all the companies on one page. Signing up is a marketing technique, it makes you think that by signing up you are being offered exclusive deals or sites not available to the general surfer. Not true.

And I encourage you not to just take my word for it. Do your research before you hand out any personal information to any person, company, or site that you are not sure of. :D

Good luck.
