As I was gearing up for my Holiday Guide I recruited some of my family members to assist with email replies, organizing etc. My family members are very helpful, although, they have VERY limited computer skills.
When Is This Thing On? by Abby Stokes first arrived, I was floored. WHAT PERFECT TIMING for a computer / internet help book written for those that are “Late Bloomers, Technophobes, and the Kicking and Screaming”.

are screenshots with diagrams, many clear labels for peripherals, and helpful facts that I have never seen in a guide such as this before.
The fact she doesn’t only tell you the “how” she tells you the “why” which is what good learning really is about. She takes you step-by-step from purchasing a computer to word processing in an easy to understand manner.
As a seasoned Internet user and Web developer, I found this book to be detailed, motivating and the way she explains information so simply but without skimping on the facts is VERY impressive! AND I even learned a few things ;)
Bonus material: Troubleshooting Guide, Glossary, Resource List and “Test Drive” form which can be filled in prior to purchasing a computer that makes sure that you are getting what you need, warranty information and more!
Everyone should use Abby’s “Test Drive” form when purchasing a computer to avoid over/under buying and of course, to make sure you are gettng the BEST deal!
Is This Thing On? by Abby Stokes would be a perfect gift for ANYONE. Not only is using a computer fun, it’s a GREAT skill to have in the workplace. For those looking searching for employment or for those that just doesn’t “get it” – Abby Stokes has provided everything needed in her book to get started AND using a computer and the Internet! Presented in a friendly and easy to understand manner, this is a book I will recommend now and in the future.
