In this day and age, we’re all looking for a good way to save a buck or two. Never is this more true than in the cost of our medical coverage. We quickly see how expensive just one trip to the doctor can get. In a time when there is so much unrest within the insurance industry, people are left wondering what the most effective way to keep their health costs down is. It seems that with high deductibles, increasing monthly premiums, and the little surprises that come in the way of bills, there is no way to keep your medical bills down. Adding to the frustration is the “fine print” that many insurance companies institute that may leave you vulnerable when you already thought you were covered for a service that you end up with a bill later on for. So as we all work hard to save money and to keep our medical bills down, here are a few tips that can be of great help.

If you take care of yourself and work towards prevention, this can result in far lower medical bills. It may sound obvious, but incorporating steps such as eating well, exercising, washing your hands regularly, and getting enough rest can result in far fewer trips to the doctor. Contribute through your employer or through some sort of investment into a flexible spending account or a health savings account. This is a great way to save up pre-tax dollars for everything from band aids to doctor’s visits. You’d be amazed at what you can use this pre-tax money towards, and if you contribute regularly the fund can really grow quite nicely. So consider this as an excellent way of keeping the medical bills down to a reasonable level.


Lead a Healthy Life and Use Incentives: Though this goes hand in hand with preventative measures, it stands alone because it can result in an incentive for you with your insurance company. Some health insurance companies may offer an incentive if you don’t smoke, if you attend a gym regularly, if you get an annual physical, or maintain a healthy weight. It’s well worth asking your health insurance company about because it can result in money in your pocket, and a healthier way to live as well.


Cut Down on Prescription Drug Costs: You can’t help but see signs everywhere boasting of low prescription drug costs at many different pharmacies. If you go for a generic drug or if you invest in a larger monthly supply of your prescription drugs, this can add up to huge savings. So consider your options and ask your pharmacist as your drug may be on a list that can end up costing you only a couple of dollars.

The best way to cut down the medical bill is to lead a healthy lifestyle. Eat wholefoods, drink lots of water and skip the alcohol and drugs. You will be much healthier and you will have no need of medication at all. On top of it do some sports instead of sitting on the couch and watching TV.

Great tips for cutting health care costs. I already started shopping around for free screenings such as attending the annual Diabetes Expo. They had several valuable free screenings such as a bone density test, retina scan and A1C1 test. Also if your income is low, many drug companies also will send free medications with a doctor’s perscription.
